New Delhi, May 31: Every year, May 31 marks the World No Tobacco Day. This day promotes and encourages abstinence from any sort of tobacco products. Tobacco is a killer, there is no doubt about it. 

In India, number of deaths per year from Tobacco consumption amounting to more than 10 lakh. In Kerala alone, it takes away 40,000 lives a year.

A sincere symbol of World No Tobacco day is an ashtray bearing fresh flowers as it prevents smokers from stubbing their cigarettes in an ash tray that contains something so fresh and natural.

The World Health Organisation has held that taxing tobacco products is the most effective way to reduce tobacco use by making it unaffordable. The decision of the GST Council to put cigarettes and pan masala at the highest 28% slab plus cess is a welcome step.

Quit smoking by following methods:-

Think Positive

All of sudden quitting smoking is not easy. Begin with light meditation and breathing exercises to keep stress and anxiety at bay. It requires time and attention.

Stay Busy

Chewing on hard candy or spend time with non-smokers, drink enough water or even go for a movie. Sometimes, breathing through a palm sized straw can give you the illusion of holding a cigarette and may provide temporary relief.
