New Delhi, July 2: In a bid to make drug free Punjab, the state government on Monday decided to recommend the death penalty for peddling or smuggling.
Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Twitter said: “Recommendation being forwarded to Central government”.
“Decided to recommend death penalty for drug peddling/smuggling. Recommendation being forwarded to Centre”, he tweeted.

Falging concern, Singh further said “Since drug peddling is destroying entire generations, it deserves exemplary punishment.I stand by my commitment for drug free Punjab”.
As per media report, a Punjab Special Task Force had successfully blocked trans-border and interstate-border drugs supply, with 16,305 cases filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and around 18,800 persons were held since March 16, 2017.
