New Delhi, July 19: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi directly attacked the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh on Friday soon after Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was detained by Uttar Pradesh Police and said that it amounts to arbitrary application of power, to prevent her from meeting families of the 10 Adivasi farmers brutally gunned down for refusing to vacate their own land.
“The illegal arrest of Priyanka in Sonbhadra, UP, is disturbing. This arbitrary application of power, to prevent her from meeting families of the 10 Adivasi farmers brutally gunned down for refusing to vacate their own land, reveals the BJP Govt’s increasing insecurity in UP,” said Rahul Gandhi on Twitter.
The tweet assumes importance as Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was on way to Sonbhadra to meet families of those killed in firing over a land dispute, was on Friday detained near Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur.
Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has been placed under preventive detention by Yogi Adityanath government as she was stopped in Uttar Pradesh’s Mirzapur on way to visit families of 10 people who were shot dead over a land dispute in Sonbhadra on July 17.
Priyanka sat on the road during a dharna with her supporters and was soon taken into preventive custody.
Uttar Pradesh administration has imposed Article 144 in Sonbhadra which prohibits assembly of 5 people at one place.
“Just want to go and meet families of victims (Sonbhadra firing case), I even said will take only 4 people with me.Yet administration is not letting us go there. They should tell us why we are being stopped. We will continue to sit here peacefully .”
Priyanka Gandhi after meeting the victims at Varanasi was scheduled to go to Sonbhadra, but the Congress general secretary was stopped in Mirzapur, following which she staged a sit-in along with party workers and leaders.
“I was going peacefully to meet the family members of the victims who have fallen to the bullets in the clash. I want to see the orders under which I have been stopped,” Priyanka Gandhi said while sitting on the dharna.
