The Former Union Minister and Senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid has said that Priyanka Gandhi will likely be the chief minister face for the party in the 2022 UP assembly elections and the Congress would not enter into alliance with any other political party.
Interestingly, Senior Leader Khurshid’s claims to the media are apparently contrary to Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s earlier statements that her party is open to forging alliances with other political parties for the UP polls.
While interacting with media persons in the city on Sunday, the former union minister Salman Khurshid said, “We have our calculations and there is no point of forging any alliance, if we are not getting seats that we ask from our alliance partners. We are preparing a manifesto for 2022 assembly polls after visiting every corner of Uttar Pradesh and there is a clear indication that alliances will not help us.”
On being asked about the Uttar Pradesh CM’s face by Congress party, Salman Khurshid, said that the party’s face is Priyanka Gandhi. He, however further said, “Priyanka hasn’t officially announced this yet, so even we can’t do it but the party will fight their elections under her leadership”.
Salman Khurshid said, “we are visiting cities to prepare our manifesto on directions of Priyanka Gandhi ji and there is no need to label this”.
After interacting with people in Tora village, Khurshid said people’s issues like widows pensions will be added in the manifesto. He was accompanied by National spokesperson Supriya Shrinate.
In July this year, Priyanka Gandhi told reporters in Lucknow: “I do not rule out (alliance). We are absolutely not closed minded. We are having an open mind.” She added that the party’s aim is to defeat BJP and other parties should also be open minded.
