Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday greeted Congress President Sonia Gandhi on her 69th birthday. Despite being at loggerheads in the Parliament, Modi displayed a compassionate attitude by extending warm wishes to the Congress President on Wednesday morning.
The Prime Minister said on micro-blogging site Twitter:
On her birthday, greetings to Congress President Smt. Sonia Gandhi. May Almighty bless her with long life & good health.

President Pranab Mukherjee also extended his warm wishes to Sonia on Twitter:

Sonia Gandhi turned 69 years old on December 9. The veteran politician is still heading the Congress party, with her son, Rahul being the second rank leader. Being the wife of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, circumstances compelled her to enter the political fray in 1991, as the assassination of Rajiv created a huge void within the grand-old party and the Congress cadres demanded her to continue the legacy of Gandhi parivaar.
In her long political career, spanning over three decades, Sonia refrained from taking up any constitutional post. Despite public sentiment being in her favour in 2004, she gave up the opportunity to lead the nation as the Prime Minister.
Narendra Modi greeting Sonia Gandhi also comes at a time when the BJP has launched a scathing attack on the Congress over Delhi High Court’s order instructing Sonia and Rahul to face prosecution in the National Herald case. In turn, Congress reverted by stalling the functioning of the Parliament.
