Presidential polls: Nobody’s name was discussed, says Ghulam Nabi Azad

New Delhi, June 14, 2017: Opposition leaders met inside the Parliament to discuss their presidential election strategy on Wednesday as the process started for the filing of nominations for the July 17 contest.

Talking to media about the meeting, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said, “Today was the first meeting. Nobody’s name was discussed today.”

All 10 members of the opposition sub-group formed for this purpose met in the chambers of the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, sources said.

The meeting came on the day the three-member panel– Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley and M Venkaiah Naidu– decided to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday to discuss the possibilities of unanimously electing the President of India.

The election to the post of President would be held on July 17. The votes would be counted on July 20.
