New Delhi, June 29, 2017: In a bid to win the battle of India’s most supreme power, opposition presidential candidate Meira Kumar will begin her election campaign from Sabarmati Ashram in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on June 30.
Speaking to the media, Kumar said that “I feel I should start my election campaign from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. I will start from there.”
Asked why Sabarmati, She said, “Everybody knows the significance of Sabarmati in our country. The ‘sant’ of Sabarmati (Mahatma Gandhi) played an important role in the freedom movement of our country. That’s why I am going there.”
While talking on the Dalit v/s Dalit narrative for the next Presidential poll, Meira Kumar claimed that the election should not be turned into a Dalit fight.
Prior to this, on Tuesday Meira Kumar held a press conference, reiterating that presidential election is a battle of ideologies not caste.
Political leaders of 16 other parties are backing her, including NCP’s Sharad Pawar, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, CPM’s Sitaram Yechury and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Lalu Prasad.
