President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday congratulated the scientists of Indian Space Research Organisation on the successful launch of India’s fifth navigation satellite into space.

“Heartiest congratulations to the ISRO team on the successful launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1E,” the president said in his message.

“Congratulating the dynamism and determination of ISRO and our scientists on the successful launch of PSLV C31 and putting IRNSS-1E in orbit precisely,” Modi tweeted.

An Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket blasted off successfully with the country’s navigation satellite – Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System-1E – from the rocket port Sriharikota here on Wednesday morning.

Once fully operational, the IRNSS will provide accurate position information service to users across the country and the region.

8 more doctors of Punjab medical college test Covid positive

Six doctors at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Five of these doctors are from the orthopaedic department. A total of 9 doctors from the medical college have tested positive in the last six days.

Seven of the total doctors belong to the orthopaedic department. One doctor is from the anaesthesia department and another is an MBBS intern.

Besides the doctors, the mother of an IAS officer in Faridkot tested positive on Tuesday. The officer was staying in a guest house here with his mother.

All doctors were asymptomatic but tested positive. Supreme Court hints at panel to probe Vikas Dubey’s encounter killing

He informed the court that the state government would file its reply on the steps taken in the matter by Thursday. The top court fixed further hearing on Monday next

Vikas Dubey.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday hinted at forming a committee to probe the encounter killing of Uttar Pradesh gangster Vikas Dubey on July 10.

A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde said it was something that the court would do very reluctantly.

“We will do something very similar to the Hyderabad gangrape-murder case, like forming a committee to probe the encounter,” he added.

The court observation came during hearing on petitions that sought a court-monitored probe through an Special Investigation Team, Central Bureau of Investigation or National Investigation Agency into the “encounter deaths of Vikas Dubey and his aides and the deep criminal-politician nexus in Uttar Pradesh”.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing Uttar Pradesh, contended before the bench that the state should be allowed time to file an affidavit to make its stand clear.

“I am representing the state of UP. Allow us to place our view,” he said.

Mehta said that the Uttar Pradesh government wants to spell its stand since it had done much after taking the issue seriously.

He informed the court that the state government would file its reply on the steps taken in the matter by Thursday. The top court fixed further hearing on Monday next.

Dubey was accused of leading the ambush at his native village Bikru in Kanpur district wherein 8 police officials were shot dead by him and his gang members on July 3.

Facts don’t change, I made no request: Priyanka to Puri

Priyanka Gandhi Video Conf

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday refuted the claims of Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri that she sought extension for stay at the government bungalow in Delhi saying “facts don’t change as I have made no such request”.

She also asserted that she will vacate the house by August 1.

Her remarks came after Puri, who is Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs in a tweet said, “Facts speak for themselves! A powerful Congress leader with much clout in the Party called me on 4 July 2020 at 12.05 p.m. to request that 35, Lodhi Estate be allotted to another Congress MP so that Priyanka Vadra can stay on. Let’s not sensationalise everything please.”

Responding to Puri’s charge, Priyanka Gandhi took to Twitter and said, “If someone called you Mr Puri, I thank them for their concern, and thank you for your consideration as well but it still does not change the facts: I have made no such request, and I am making no such request.”

“As I said, I will be vacating the house by the 1st of August as required in the eviction letter,” she said in a series of tweets.

Her remarks came after an IANS story which claimed that in a remarkably statesman-like move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to a request to allow Priyanka Gandhi to retain the 35, Lodhi Estate Bungalow for some time.

On July 1, the government asked Priyanka Gandhi, daughter of party interim chief Sonia Gandhi, to vacate her government accommodation within a month as she is no longer in the list of Special Protection Group (SPG). Priyanka Gandhi was allotted bungalow No 35 in south Delhi’s Lodhi Estate on February 21, 1997 on security grounds as a SPG protectee.

According to a notice issued by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry, she has to vacate the bungalow by August 1, failing which it will attract damage charges/penal rent as per rules.
