President Kovind awards standards to 2 Indian Air Force units at Adampur

Adampur, Nov 16: President Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday presented standards to two units of Indian Air Force, viz 223 Squadron (Tridents) and 117 Helicopter unit (Himalyan Dragon) for their splendid historical journey. 

In his address, the President recalled the glorious legacy of the Indian Armed forces in safeguarding the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the nation. He said that every individual  had a sound sleep back home because they were aware that brave  soldiers were protecting the borders.

In a series of tweets expressed his gratitude. “Proud to be Supreme Commander of the magnificent men and women of our valiant Air Force. Happy to award Standards to the 223 Squadron and the 117 Helicopter Unit of the IAF… Also witnessed a dazzling air show” he tweeted.

Speaking about the excellent performance of both the units, Kovind said the 223 Squadron is one of the few that remains alert 365 days a year. It truly lives up to its motto of Vijaya Amoghastraha, which means the Ultimate Weapon for Victory.

In Operation Rahat, Operation Megh Rahat, and numerous other humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions, 117 Helicopter Unit has worked tirelessly in helping civilian, he added.

The president said he is very fortunate to be in Punjab, which was the land of Sainiks (soldiers) and saints.

Earlier in a day, Kovind took salute from march past, followed by prize distribution ceremony and watched aerial show by the Indian Air Force.

Apart from this, he also released an information brochure of both the units.

This was Kovind’s first visit to Punjab after taking over as President of India.

Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore, Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh, MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, former MLA Rajbhans Kaur Rana, Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa, Commissioner Jalandhar Raj Kamal Chaudhary, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, Inspector General of Police Arpit Shukla and other digintaries attended the event.
