Pompeo cites Progress on denuclearize deal with Kim

Pyongyang , Oct 7 : US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo held a two-hour meeting with  North Korean leader Kim Jong un said he had a “good trip” to Pyongyang and meetings making progress in diplomatic efforts to denuclearize the country.

Pompeo meeting with Kim was followed by a 90-minute luncheon hosted by the North’s leader.

Pompeo tweeted ,“Had a good trip to #Pyongyang to meet with Chairman Kim,” he wrote. “We continue to make progress on agreements made at Singapore Summit,” referring to the meeting between  Kim and President Trump in June.

Pompeo left for Pyongyang from Tokyo earlier in the day, where he met Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Foreign Minister Taro Kono, reports Yonhap News Agency.

South Korean officials said that in Pyongyang Pompeo will hold a meeting with the North Korean leader on the issues of denuclearization and the establishment of a peace regime.

Following the meeting, Pompeo has landed in Seoul for  a meeting with President Moon Jae-in and Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha later Sunday and brief them on the results of his trip to the North.

The visit was Pompeo’s fourth to the North Korean capital. US President Donald Trump met Kim in Singapore in June for the first-ever summit between the countries.
