New Delhi, March 11: Amid debate over conducting the ensuing Lok Sabha elections during the holy month of Ramzan by a section of political parties, the Election Commission of India (EC) on Monday said that it has excluded the date of the main festival and Fridays from the poll schedule but a full month cannot be excluded.
During Ramadan, polls are conducted as full month can not be excluded, said the Election commission, news agency reported ANI.
It added that the date of the main festival and Fridays have been avoided for poll days.
This development comes after various parties expressed their concern that it may cause inconvenience to the people.
The poll panel had on Sunday announced the schedule for general elections. The dates for the seven phases are April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, May 6, May 12 and May 19. Counting of votes will be held on May 23.
