New Delhi, Dec 2 : NCP supremo Sharad Pawar has claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had proposed that they “work together” during the recent turmoil in Maharashtra, but he refused the offer.

Pawar made the disclosure in an interview with Marathi news channel ABP Majha.

The NCP chief said that he had told Modi that he has good relations with him, but their “working together was not possible”.

As per media reports, Pawar’s daughter and Baramati MP Supriya Sule was offered a ministerial berth in the Union Cabinet, and there was even speculation that he was offered the President’s post.

After the Shiv Sena split from its long-time ally BJP over the issue of a rotational Chief Minister, the Sena, Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress had started discussions on a common minimum programme. But in the midst of this, Pawar had set off speculation by meeting the Prime Minister.

However, it was Pawar who took the initiative for the Sena-NCP-Congress government, and even convinced an initially-reluctant Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi to give her consent.

Rahul Gandhi Ashish Jha

New Delhi, May 27 : Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his series of talks on Covid-19 pandemic interacted with Professor Ashish Jha of Harvard University who said that “lockdown is not a goal” but a time to separate infected persons from non-infected ones, when you can’t test aggressively. He said the lockdown has psychological impact too on the people.

“Lockdown buys you time, but lockdown is not the goal unto itself. You can use that time to prepare a really fabulous testing, tracing, isolation infrastructure. You want to use that time to communicate with people,” said Jha.

The Harvard Professor says that vigorous testing, tracing and isolation is helpful, “but if you can’t do that, then you have to lock everything down. Can you slow down the virus from a lockdown? Of course you can. But it has very substantial economic repercussions,” he said.

While Ashish Jha said that the reason to do the lockdown is that you are trying to slowdown the spread of the virus, as the virus is a new one. The humanity had not seen this virus before. That means all of us are suspects. All of us are susceptible population. Left unchecked, the virus will grow exponentially, he said.

“And the way to stop it is to take infected people and separate them from un-infected ones,” advocated Jha.

The Harvard Professor said that life will be very different when lockdown ends.

“This is not about going back to what life was like last May or June. That life over the next 6-12-18 months is going to look very different. And its really is about planning all of that out. So it’s not just communication, but really thinking through, what will public transportation look like? Who will go back to work. What will schools do. There is a lot of work you want to be doing during the lockdown,” he said.

Lucknow, May 26 : The Congress has stepped up its attack on the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing it of putting out fake statistics regarding coronavirus cases and also spreading communal hatred.

Senior Congress leader P L Punia, while addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, said that UPCC president Ajay Kumar Lallu had been sent to jail only because he was helping the migrant workers.

“No one is being allowed to meet the UPCC president and the Congress will not tolerate this injustice,” he said.

Punia alleged that UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said in an interview to a TV channel that migrant workers were responsible for spreading the corona infection.

Meanwhile, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Aradhana Mishra said that the Yogi government had claimed that 25 lakh migrant workers had returned to UP.

“The government has said that the number of infected persons is 6228 so how can they claim that the 25 lakh migrant workers have brought the infection to UP? The chief minister should explain the basis of his claim,” she said.

Mishra demanded that the state government should come clean on the number of patients, testing figures and preparations made for corona.
