New Delhi, Feb 8: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday targetted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and government over Rafale fighter jet deal.

“PM Modi himself robbed Air Force’s Rs 30,000 crore and gave it to Anil Ambani, we have been raising this since 1 year.” Gandhi said here while addressing a press conference at the party headquarters.

“Today, The Hindu newspaper has put it in black and white. It is absolutely clear that the Prime Minister himself was carrying out a parallel negotiation with the French,” he said.

Quoting the statement of the Defence Secretary in the letter to then Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Gandhi asserted “Defence Secretary of India says, “It is desirable that such discussions be avoided by the PMO as it undermines our negotiating position seriously.” It cannot be written stronger than this”.

Gandhi also accused Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman of lying. He said “Former French President has admitted that he was made to choose Anil Ambani by PM Modi himself”.

On being asked about the interrogation of his brother-in-law Robert Vadra in a money laundering case and former Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the INX MEDIA case, Gandhi said “The government can probe everyone they want, but must answer questions on the Rafale deal.”

The AICC chief remarks came after The Hindu on Friday published a report: “Defence Ministry protested against PMO undermining Rafale negotiations”.
