New Delhi, 17th September: Narendra Modi in his speech after the inauguration recalled Ambedkar, Sardar patel but forget Pt. Jawahar Lal  Nehru who initiated the establishment of Sardar sarovar Dam.

Earlier today Narendra modi in his speech said,”We especially remember two great people today, Sardar Patel & Dr. Ambedkar, who as Minister gave great importance to irrigation & waterways”.

Whereas foundation stone for the Sardar Sarovar Project was laid by country’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 5th April, 1961.
The project took form in 1979 as part of a development scheme to increase irrigation and produce hydroelectricity. This is the eighth time when the height of the Sardar Sarovar Dam has been increased amid protest by environmentalis and social activists.

Activist Medha patekar was still protesting against the increased height of the Dam when prime minister was inaugurating it. With the water level of the dam steadily rising, it is speculated that one town and 192 villages in the region will be submerged under water. Around 40,000 families in the affected villages would have to leave their homes as the danger escalates.
