New Delhi, Sep 8: Days after accounts followed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi posted vicious and abusive messages celebrating the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh, the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) came with justification by saying that following someone on twitter is not a character certificate.
Party’s national head for information and technology, Amit Malviya issued a statement on social networking site asserting “the controversy over PM following people on Twitter is mischievous and contorted.”

“PM following someone is not a character certificate of the person, and is not in any way a guarantee of how the person would conduct himself,” it added.
The statement claimed “Modi is a rare leader who truly believes in freedom of speech, and has never blocked or unfollowed anybody on Twitter.”
This comes after political parties noted that at least four people followed by Modi on the social networking site tweeted and circulated hate messages after the cold blooded murder of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in Bengaluru September 5.
