New Delhi, July 15 : The Supreme Court has agreed on a PIL to decriminalise abortion and to allow women to have choice of reproduction and issued a notice to the Centre, emphasising that every woman should have the choice of reproduction.

Reproduction and abortion a matter of choice for women, the Supreme court issued notices on a PIL that says women should have a right to decide on reproduction and abortion. Plea challenges the law that makes abortion permissible only to save life. Petition wants abortion to be decriminalised.

The public interest litigation was filed by three women seeking direction to decriminalise abortion to allow women to have choice of reproduction.

The PIL says restrictions and exceptions in Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act violate women’s rights.
