New Delhi, April 11, 2017: A petroleum dealers association with a presence in the states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra have threatened to not purchase petrol and diesel for a day on May 10 and subsequently shut outlets every Sunday if the government continues to ignore their demands for hiked commissions.

The weekly Sunday off will start from May 14 while from May 15, dealers will operate from 9 am to 6 pm to cut costs.

The petrol dealers association said that the ‘No Purchase Day’ on May 10 may not cause much disruption, but it was aimed at telling state-run oil marketing companies that they are opting for ‘war path’.

They had earlier withdrawn a nationwide strike in January after state-run oil firms assured them higher dealer commission. “We had withdrawn the strike threat in January after oil marketing companies assured to revise dealer commission rates. But nothing happened in four months,” a report in the media quoted Ravi Shinde of the Petrol Dealers’ Association as saying.

The threat to observe remain shut on Sunday comes as Public sector oil companies like Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum are mulling reviewing fuel prices daily rather than fortnightly to align them better with international prices.
