Kolkata, April 4: Amid the ongoing controversy over the release of a biopic featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee on Thursday launched a scathing attack against the PM, asking what major contribution has he made to the nation.
Banerjee said the country would instead prefer to watch biopics on Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhimrao Ambedkar rather than PM Modi.
“Why will people watch your film? If people want to watch films they will watch films on Gandhiji, Ambedkar ji, why Modi? What contribution he has made to India,” the West Bengal CM questioned, while addressing a rally in Cooch Behar on Thursday.
“PM Narendra Modi” is helmed by National Award-winning filmmaker Omung Kumar.
Starring Vivek Oberoi in the lead, the film will traverse the journey of Modi from his beginnings to his years as Chief Minister onto his landmark win at the 2014 General Election and being nominated as Prime Minister.
The Supreme Court on Thursday said it will hear on April 8 a plea seeking to block the release of a biopic on Prime Minister Narendra Modi that is scheduled to release on April 5.
According to media reports, the makers are now eyeing a release on April 12, which was its original release date.
