Partly cloudy Thursday morning in Delhi

New Delhi, April 20: Delhiites experienced a partly cloudy Thursday morning with the minimum temperature recorded at 25.5 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average.

The maximum temperature is likely to reach around 41 degrees Celsius.

“The day ahead is likely to remain partly cloudy,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department.

Humidity at 8.30 a.m. was 70 per cent.

Wednesday’s maximum temperature settled at 42.5 degrees Celsius, five notches above the season’s average while minimum temperature was recorded at 25.4 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season’s average.

Mathura walls painted saffron ahead of Adityanath’s visit

Mathura, Feb 23: The buildings and walls of Mathura are getting a coat of saffron colour ahead of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s visit to participate in the Lathmar Holi. 

“The preparation is in full swing. The Nagar Panchayat has made all the facility available. We are cleaning the entire city for the festival,” news agency ANI quoted an official as saying.

“Every year we used to celebrate a colourful Holi. This year it is saffronised. We are happy that the Chief Minister is coming to the city to celebrate the festival with us” said a local.

Adityanath will pay a visit to Barsana on February 24 to celebrate the colourful festival.

Madhya Pradesh: Man kills class 11 student outside school

Anuppur, Feb 23: A 16-year-old girl was stabbed to death with a sword outside her school at Kotma village in Madhya Pradesh. 

The incident came to light on Thursday, when the girl, who was studying in class 11 of an all girl’s government school was attacked with a sword on her neck, where she died on the spot, news agency ANI reported.

The victim’skin alleged a man named Dilip Sahu to be her killer.

“In 2014 the girl had filed a complaint of eve-teasing against the Dilip and a criminal investigation was done on the matter,” stated SDOP Vijay Singh.

Following all this, the police held Dilip and are interrogating him.

“I saw a girl outside and a man walking behind her outside the school and thought they were family. The man suddenly started beating the girl. I tried to intervene and shouted him to stop, as I was about 20 feet away, he managed ran away,” said an eyewitness.

The investigation is underway in the matter.

Himachal hills may turn white this weekend

Shimla, Feb 23: If you want to witness snow this weekend, head to Himachal Pradesh as the Met predicts chances of precipitation at many places.

“A Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Himalayan region on Friday with its peak activity on Saturday,” the meteorological department statement said.

Chances of widespread snow in higher reaches of Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, Lahaul and Spiti, Sirmaur and Chamba districts were high.

Most of the prominent tourist towns like Shimla, Kufri, Narkanda, Manali and Dalhousie, located in mid-hills, may witness moderate snowfall after Friday, the Met official added.

Shimla, which saw a low of 8.1 degrees Celsius, had received moderate snow on February 12 and 13, like its neighbouring Kufri, Mashobra and Narkanda.

Tourist resort Manali, some 250 km from here, saw a low of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius.

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in the state at minus 4.1 degrees Celsius.

It was minus 1.2 degrees in Kalpa, 7.5 degrees in Dalhousie and 8.8 degrees in Dharamsala town.

The weather bureau said rainfall and snowfall is expected at most places on Saturday with chances of heavy spells in mid and high hills.

Low hills and plains were likely to see hailstorm.

Those in the hospitality industry are happy as they are expecting a record number of footfalls this weekend owing to chances of more snow.

“Snow is an added attraction for the tourists,” D.P. Bhatia, Shimla-based liaison officer with the Oberoi Group of hotels, told IANS.
