Pampore Day 2: Operation resumed, militants still holed up

Pampore attack

Srinagar, October 11: The Security forces have launched a fresh offensive to flush-out the militants holed-up inside a government building near Pampore town of Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday morning.

“Operation against the holed up militants has been resumed. Floodlights were used during the night to ensure that the militants were prevented from escaping under the cover of darkness,” a senior police official said.

The day two of military operation included rockets and heavy automatic gunfire to expel the militants out of EDI building.

Yesterday the forces used mortar shells, Light Machine Guns and other small arms but so far the security forces have not been successful.

Two to three militants stormed into the EDI complexes in the wee hours yesterday and took positions inside one of the buildings. Till now, 2 security personnel and a policeman were injured in the fighting that began on Monday.

An army official also said that the area around the Entrepreneurship Development Institute has been cordoned off and exchange of fire was going on.

The joint operation was launched by the army, the Special Operations Group of the state police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). The visuals from the site are deferred till the operations are on.

After getting inside the complex, the militants set on fire few mattresses inside a hostel room to attract the attention of the police and other security forces, which arrived within minutes of the smoke emanating from the building.

The ultras could have entered the complex from the riverside but that can only be ascertained once the operation is over.

The main building of the institute was attacked in February and 6 persons including a civilian, 3 soldiers and 2 paramilitary troopers and 3 militants were killed then.
