Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, received a ceremonial welcome at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. After this he will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries.
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay posted a picture of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, along with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi on twitter , stating “Deepening historically close and friendly ties.”
Later , Abbas paid tributes to the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. He will participate in delegation-level talks with Modi in which two countries are expected to sign several agreements during Palestinian President’s four day visit to India.
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj called on Abbas and discussed bilateral issues. “Reinforcing support to Palestine. Sushma Swaraj calls on President Mahmoud Abbas,” Baglay said.
Palestine President will also meet Vice President Hamid Ansari later in a day.
This is the Abbas ‘s fifth visit and the third state visit in India after 2008 and 2012.
