New Delhi, Jan 8: After witnessing months of uncertainty and violent protests, Deepika Padukone-starrer Padmavat is scheduled to hit the box office on January 25.
Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film will clash with Akshar Kumar-starrer Padman at the screens during the Republic Day weekend.
Earlier, the film was slated to release on December 1, but it was stalled after several Rajput groups, primarily the Karni Sena, alleged that it distorted history, which is repeatedly dismissed by Bhansali.
As protests spread in various parts of the country and the star cast received threats, the film’s makers deferred its release.
The movie was originally named ‘Padmavati’, late it was changed to ‘Padmavat’ after suggestions by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
The Censor Board gave U/A certification and sought for a few modifications along with the title change.
