OROP suicide: Modi should apologise for the shameful act

The suicide of 70 years old ex- servicemen has raised several questions on Modi’s claim of delivering the promise of One Rank One Pension (OROP) to the ex Army Personnel. Subedar Ram Kishan Grewal,a residentnof Bhiwani district in Haryana committed suicide by consuming poison.

This sacrifice of Army veteran Ram Kishan Grewal amounts to Martyrdom while the most shocking part of this tragic incident is that on one side our country’s Armed forces are laying down their lives for the security and integrity of the country and on the contrary Delhi Police under the implied orders of Modi government harassed, used abusive language and even dragged and assaulted  the family members of the deceased who rather  deserved condolence of the entire nation.

And the extent to which the Union minister and ex Army chief V K Singh went ahead by uttering insensitive remark that there is a need to know the psychological condition under which Army veteran Ram Kishen Grewal committed suicide and Menakshi Lekhi’s comment that persons commit suicide under depression are most deplorable when the veteran has mentioned in his suicide note that he is laying down his life for the sake of brave soldiers who are fighting for the country.

It appears that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar do not have even any distant member serving in the Armed forces.

The highhandedness of Modi government was fully exposed when the family of the deceased veteran were detained at the police station because he wanted to meet Congress vice President Rahul Gandhi to apprise him of the situation and the agonies of the ex-servicemen family.

But the height of the stone hardheartedness of BJP leadership was revealed  when Rahul Gandhi of the main Opposition arty was detained twice within 5 hours thus forbidding him to meet the family of the Martyrs.Rahul Gandhi demanded an apology from PM Modi and said ” The least this government can do is to apologise to the family of the deceased soldier for making them suffer.”

Likewise Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was also detained and was not allowed to meet bereaved family.

In a democracy, leaders of any political party have the right to meet anyone or to visit any place. This type of shameful rule was not even witnessed during British Raj when India was ruled by Britishers .And since independence this is the first shameful and shocking incident for which not only prime minister Narendra Modi but the saffron brigade should apologise to the said family and the nation as Modi himself has been declaring on the Independence day, in the Parliament  and recently at the border on Diwali day that their government has implemented OROP fully.
