DECATUR, April 4: American media proprietor and actress Oprah Winfrey has been chosen as the keynote speaker, delivers the commencement speech at Agnes Scott College, Suburban Atlanta.
Officials at the private liberal arts school announced Monday that Winfrey will receive an honorary degree on 13 May during the ceremony.
“We are educating our students to become global change agents who have the courage, compassion and commitment to make a difference in the world. Oprah Winfrey is a phenomenal model of leading a purpose-driven life with her impressive legacy of leadership, philanthropy and service,” said President of Agnes Scott College Elizabeth Kiss.
“We are honored and thrilled to welcome her to our college to share an inspiring and empowering message with our 2017 graduates”, added by Elizabeth.
Winfrey hosted the popular talk show “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the United States for 25 years and runs a multi-media empire that includes a magazine by the name “O, The Oprah Magazine.”, a cable channel “OWN” and movie production company.
She also has appeared in numerous films and was nominated for an academy award for “The Color Purple.” In 2013, she was awarded the Medal of Freedom.
