New Delhi, July 7: Opposition parties will meet next Tuesday in Delhi to field a consensus candidate against the NDA nominee for upcoming vice president election.
Earlier, All the 17 opposition parties showed their unity by picking Meira Kumar as a Presidential candidate.
Janata Dal (United), which is backing NDA’s candidate Ram Nath Kovind will also attend the meeting.
However, the opposition Congress had reached out to the party with an invitation — Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel had spoken to senior JD(U) leaders.
“If we are invited to the meet, we will definitely go and be part of the deliberations,” JD(U) national spokesperson KC Tyagi told Media.
As per Decan Herald report, Senior JD(U) leader Sharad Yadav and CPI national secretary D Raja have emerged as front-runners for opposition vice presidential candidate.
Hamid Ansari is the current Vice President, his term is going to end on August 10.
