Our goal is to defeat BJP, protect India’s constitution: Rahul Gandhi after Opposition Meeting

New Delhi Dec 10: After the opposition parties meeting, Congress President Rahul Gandhi said our goal is to defeat BJP, protect India’s constitution and our institutions.

“This is a process and it is bringing together everybody. I said in the room that voices in this room are voices of the opposition in the country; our goal is to defeat BJP, protect India’s constitution and our institutions”, he told media.

“In the middle of the meeting(of opposition leaders), we were told that RBI Guv has resigned because he could no longer work with govt. There was consensus in the room that we’ve to stop BJP’s assault on our institutions- CBI, RBI, EC & on the constitution”, he stated.

The meeting held at at the Parliament House Annexe on Monday in the national capital- a day ahead of the five state assembly poll results.

A total of 17 parties are present in the meeting of opposition leaders that is underway. No representation from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Samajwadi Party (SP) yet.

Today’s meeting is called by Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP supremo Chandrababu Naidu in a bid to bring all the anti-BJP parties under a single umbrella.

Opposition leaders including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, National Conference chairman Farooq Abdullah, DMK President MK Stalin and others attended the meeting.

Earlier in a day, Andhra Pradesh CM and TDP Chief met National Conference chairman Farooq Abdullah and Congress leader Ahmed Patel.

Meanwhile, Stalin along with party leaders Kanimozhi, A Raja and TR Balu met Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

In the last few months, Naidu had called on strings of opposition leaders.
