One killed after an earthquake of magnitude 5.7 hits Tripura

Jan 3: An Earthquake of magnitude 5.7 on Richard scale hits Tripura on Tuesday afternoon in Ambassa. The actual time of the earthquake recorded is 2:42 PM.

A woman was killed and some others were injured in Tripura after the earthquake hit the northeastern region today.

Kamalini Kanda, 50, died of the heart attack out of fear during the tremor at Kamalpur in Dhalai district in Tripura, an official of the Tripura Disaster Management Centre said.

The earthquake also shook Assam’s Guwahati.

Quake of 4.7 magnitude hits Meghalaya

Shillong, Dec 11 : A moderate intensity quake measuring 4.7 on the Richter Scale today shook Meghalaya but there was no report of any casualty.

Officials at the Regional Seismological Centre here said the epicentre was at a depth of 60 km in remote East Garo Hills district.

The quake, that lasted for a few seconds, occurred at around 9.05 am.

Meghalaya and the seven other north eastern states fall in Zone 5 of the country’s earthquake zoning map.

According to the zoning map, Zone 5 is associated with the highest level of seismicity.

Earthquake hits Uttarakhand, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

NEW DELHI: A magnitude 5.5 earthquake jolted people in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Wednesday night.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said the moderate intensity quake originated in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district at a depth of 30 kilometres.

Earlier, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said the epicenter of the quake was located 121 km east of Dehradun in Uttarakhand.

Tremors were also felt in different parts of the country.

Quake jolts area near North Korea n-test site

Pyongyang, Dec 2 : An earthquake measuring 2.5 on the Richter scale on Saturday rocked North Korea’s Kilju county, close to the site where Pyongyang recently conducted a nuclear test.

The tremor occurred at 7.45 a.m., with an epicentre 2.7 km away from the Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site located in North Hamgyong province, reports Efe news.

The Seoul-based Korea Meteorological Administration said the quake was natural in origin, however, since the latest North Korean nuclear test on September 3, several tremors measuring up to 3.0 on the Richter scale have shaken the area.

Since 2006, North Korea has carried out six nuclear tests at the site, with the last three taking place in 2016 and 2017.
