New Delhi, 17 Oct: Yet another case of apathy was witnessed in Odisha after a family had to cremate a body in front of their house.
The incident was reported in Balasore district where a family was barred from performing last rites in a public crematorium as the Dalit man had died of AIDS.
The 35-year-old deceased man was working as a daily labourer in Mumbai and was reportedly HIV positive. As his condition deteriorated, he returned to his native village a few months ago.
He was taking a medical treatment from SCB College and Medical Hospital in Cuttack. Later his family members shifted him to a private hospital as they were assured of proper treatment there in lieu of Rs one lakh.
Earlier too, a hard hitting case was reported from Odisha, when a man was forced to carry his wife’s body on shoulders in Kabisuryanagar town. The news had received sharp criticism of health care services through out the country.
Later on the state government announced a ‘Mahaprayana’ facility to transport dead bodies from hospitals to homes.
