Ever wondered about the quality of air that you breathe in? We are all aware of the increasing pollution levels in our cities. We all know about the factors that contribute to the depletion of air quality. But now we all can know about the pollution with just checking our twitter account.
Major cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai etc are one of the heaviest polluters in the country thanks to the ever growing number of vehicles. For informing the people about the air pollution, Twitter India has now teamed up with India Spend to give users an accurate real time reading of the pollution in their areas. This service is currently available in Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai while other cities will be added soon.
To know how the air is around you, all you have to do is tweet “Breathe” with the name of your area. For example: If you tweet #Breathe JP Nagar, you will get an instantaneous response in the form of a tweet with an accurate reading of how the air is around you. Data is provided in terms of particle pollution or PM and AQI (air quality index). This is a pretty good service and tells you how polluted your area/city really is.

“Pollution levels across India are rising and is a huge health issue affecting millions of people. By leveraging India Spend’s air-quality monitoring network, Twitter is democratizing access to live air pollution data to help Indians make healthier living decisions from Earth Day 2016 and beyond,” Twitter India mentioned in a detailed blog post.
It is important to note that 13 of the 20 most polluted cities in the world are in India, which is a major cause for concern. Keeping this in mind, it is hoped that the citizens as well as the government takes preventive steps to counter the menace of air pollution. Carpooling is considered to be one such remedy, although not everybody follows it.
