Shimla, June 4: The travel distance between this Himachal Pradesh tourist resort and Chandigarh was reduced to just 20 minutes with the launch of a heli-taxi service on Monday.

The state government in association with helicopter service operator Pawan Hans Ltd launched a to and fro heli-taxi service on the Chandigarh-Shimla route, cutting down the earlier four hours travel time.

Each sortie, with 19 passengers on board, will offer a minimum fare of Rs 2,999 per person. It will initially ply twice a week, Monday and Friday.

The helicopter will take off from Shimla’s airport at Jubbarhatti at 8 a.m. and reach the Chandigarh International Airport at 8.20 a.m.

And from Chandigarh to Shimla, the flight will take off at 9 a.m. and reach Shimla at 9.20 a.m., an official with Pawan Hans told IANS.

He said the frequency of heli-taxi service would be increased depending on response of the passengers.

Otherwise, it takes minimum four hours to travel between Shimla and Chandigarh by road.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur flagged off the first service from Shimla. He said this would greatly help to boost the tourism industry in the state.

The government is also planning to start heli-taxi service between Chandigarh and Manali and sortie service from Manali to the majestic Rohtang Pass, an official said.

Members of the tourism industry are elated as they are hopeful that high-end tourists, especially foreigners and business travellers, will prefer to visit the state capital and its nearby destinations by flights.

“We are hopeful that the heli-taxi service will give boost to the tourism industry,” D.P. Bhatia, liaison officer with Shimla-based Oberoi Group of hotels, told IANS.

New Delhi, Dec 15 : A 27-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted by “over 20 women bouncers” and her mother in-law in the national capital, police said on Friday.

An FIR has been registered on the basis of victim’s complaint.

The police said the victim, Garima Chaudhary, was assaulted on Monday noon when she came back from her parents’ house in Haryana’s Rohtak.

“When she, along with her mother, tried to enter her husband’s house at Saket, a group of over 30 goons including 20 women bouncers, prevented her and her mother and dragged them out.

“When Garima resisted their attempts, the women bouncers and her mother-in-law identified as Sunita Chaudhary assaulted her. They even punched her mother. The victim also stated that she has a life threat from her mother-in-law,” the FIR mentioned.

Garima alleged that her husband, Tejveer, was also involved in the incident and “he escaped from the backdoor on the day of crime”.

“I don’t know why my mother-in-law doesn’t want to keep me in my husband’s house. She also made my husband go underground. He is not answering my calls,” she added.

The victim married Tajveer in November 2017.

“We have registered a case and booked accused persons for making sexually-coloured remarks, stalking and other relevant sections. A hunt is on to nab the accused persons,” a senior police officer said.

Panaji, Dec 14 : With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the by-polls in two legislative assembly constituencies, the BJP on Friday announced the appointment of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak Satish Dhond as the organising secretary for Goa.

Dhond, a close aide of ailing Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, is considered to be one of the key architects of the BJP’s rise as an organisation and its ascent to power, by working behind the scenes and persuading leaders to toe the party line.

Confirming Dhond’s appointment, Goa Bharatiya Janata Party’s general secretary Sadanand Shet Tanavde on Friday said, “He will be reporting to BJP’s general secretary for Goa Vijay Puranik.”

Dhond is currently holding charge of Thane and Konkan regions in Maharashtra.

Dhond is expected to meet Goa BJP office bearers at the state party headquarters on Friday to chart out the course of action for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and review the party’s campaign plan.

The state is also scheduled to witness two assembly by-polls, which have been necessitated following the resignation of two Congress MLAs in October, who eventually joined the BJP.
