New Delhi, Nov 14: Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das on Monday informed that the old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 will be accepted at government hospitals, petrol stations, and toll booths until November 24.
This decision come after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting at his residence with the senior BJP leaders and cabinet ministers to review demonetization and its impact. The meeting was chaired by Modi as the current scenario of the country is chaotic with people standing in long queues to exchange their old currency notes.
The amount people can now take out from ATMs daily has been hiked from Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 and the amount of withdrawal across the bank counter has gone up from Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500, the Finance Ministry said.
The weekly limit of Rs 20,000 for withdrawal from bank counters has been increased to Rs. 24,000. The maximum limit of Rs. 10,000 per day on such withdrawals has been removed.
