New Delhi, Aug 1: On Day 12 of Parliament monsoon session the Congress leader Anand Sharma raised “None Of The Above” issue and said introduction of NOTA option in upcoming Gujarat’s Rajya Sabha election is unconstitutional and illegal.
Speaking in Rajya Sabha, Referring to Secretary’s notice on “None Of The Above”, Sharma said introduction of NOTA option at this time when state is witnessing political fiasco is unconstitutional and illegal.
After this ruckus triggered in the house, when Chairman Hamid Ansari retaliated by saying “we cannot take this matter into consideration during Question Hour,If you want a debate on this then submit a notice” and adjourned the house till 2 pm.
Yesterday, Gujarat Assembly Secretary D M Patel said “As per the directions issued by the Election Commission of India in 2013, NOTA option will be printed on the ballot paper.”
On introduction of NOTO Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia said party will issue whip to caste vote.
“Voters will have to mark their preference on the ballot. For BJP, there are three preferences, while for Congress, we have only one, that is Ahmed Patel,” he added.
“We will issue a whip and ask our MLAs to mark only the first preference. The whip will not give them the option of second preference, that is NOTA in our case. If an MLA marks NOTA, he will be disqualified,” he further stated.
The Congress has accused the ruling Bhartiya Janta Party of horse-trading and misusing the power ahead of Rajya Sabha polls after its six Gujarat legislators resigned from the party.
Political Secretary to Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, Ahmed Patel is contesting against BJP’s Balwantsinh Rajput in Rajya Sabha election which is slated to be held August 8.
