New Delhi, Aug 22: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashish Khetan announced his resignation from the party on Wednesday.
Early this year I made my decision to quit active politics after much deliberation and in consultation with family and close friends. However, since both the party and the government were beset with a series of crises, I waited for an opportune time to formalize my decision. I had also informed the party leadership about my decision, on more than one occasion,” he said in a Facebook post.
Khetan further stated his “personal decision” to move away from the party and electoral politics should not be viewed as a reflection on the AAP.
“I have only received love and respect from the party and its members and volunteers. And I will be forever grateful for that,” he said.
His post came after a speculation over his move and media reports that he had quit the party.
Prior to this, Khetan gave vague replies on Twitter without confirming his decision, saying he is “completely focused” on his legal practices and is not involved in active politics at the moment.
Khetan had made these statements in refrence to rumours of him leaving the AAP were surfaced, following Ashutosh’s resignation from the party.
“I am completely focussed on my legal practice and not involved in active politics at the moment. Rest is all extrapolation, he tweeted.
The AAP leader further asserted ” I had resigned from DDC in April, to join the legal profession. That is all. Not interested in rumours”.
However, there no official statement has been made by the AAP on Khetan’s decision.
Last week on August 15, Ashutosh had announced his exit from AAP due to personal reasons.
“Every journey has an end. My association with AAP which was beautiful/revolutionary has also an end. I have resigned from the PARTY/requested PAC to accept the same. It is purely from a very very personal reason. Thanks to party/all of them who supported me throughout. Thanks,” he wrote on Twitter.
