No tsunami threat to Hawaii after 8.2 magnitude earthquake rocks Fiji

Suva, Aug 19 : A massive earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale  struck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, near the islands of Fiji and Tonga  but there  is no tsunami threat to Hawaii .

The powerful tremor struck off Ndoi Island, Fiji, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake was almost 560 km deep, the USGS said.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre said based on the data available, a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected, and there was no threat to Hawaii.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
