No parking at Metro stations due to Independence Day

New Delhi, Aug 12 : Keeping security concerns in view ahead of the Independence Day, the Delhi Metro will keep the parking lots at all its stations closed from a day before the event, it announced on Saturday.

“Parking facilities will not be available at the Delhi Metro stations from 6 a.m. on Monday i.e, August 14, 2017, till 2 p.m. on Tuesday i.e, August 15, 2017, in view of the security measures adopted on the occasion of Independence Day,” a statement from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said.

The transporter will use the opportunity to clean the vacated lots in the Swachch Bharat spirit and will depute officials to ensure compliance, it said.

Fire in Delhi’s Bawana, 9 people reported dead. More details awaited.

A major fire broke out in a plastic godown of Bawana industrial area on Saturday killing at least nine people and injuring many others. Fire tenders have been rushed to the stop to control the blaze. The reason of the fire is yet to be known.

At least nine people were killed and several others injured when a fire broke out at a plastic godown in Bawana Industrial area on Saturday evening. 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire. As per the latest reports, fire is under control now.

There are speculations that few people might be trapped inside the building. Earlier in April last year, a major blaze at had erupted in a slum of Bawana resulting in many deaths. More than 500 jhuggis had been burnt down in the fire.

The incidents of fire have been on rise across the country resulting in so many unfortunate deaths. Many of these incidents are a result of failing to comply with the fire safety norms.

Haryana: Class 12 student shoots dead school principal

Chandigarh, Jan 20: In a strange incident a class 12 student allegedly shot dead the principal of his school in Haryana’s Yamunanagar on Saturday, police said.

The victim, Principal Ritu Chhabra was shot at thrice by the suspended Class 12 student during a meeting with his parents in the premises of Swami Vivekanand Public School in the city, news agency IANS reported.

The student had been recently suspended and expelled from the school.

According to police, the boy’s father is a financier and the pistol used in the incident belonged to the father and is a licensed one.

“School staff, students and teachers caught the accused while he was trying to escape and handed him over to police,” said a senior police officer.

Police said that prima facie investigations suggest that the boy was accompanied by at least one of his friends.

More than five rounds were fired, triggering panic and horror among the school staff, teachers and students.

Chhabra was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead by doctors after some time.
