No flights to take off from Bhubaneswar for 24 hrs

Bhubaneswar, May 2: With the cyclonic storm Fani moving closer to the Odisha coast, no flights will take off from midnight for next 24 hours from Bhubaneswar’s Biju Patnaik International Airport.

Special Relief commissioner Bishnupada Sethi has made the announcement regarding this.

All Indigo, GoAir flights in and out from the aiprort also stood cancelled.

Vistara is also waiving change and cancellation fee.

“In light of expected cyclone (Fani), which is likely to impact Bhubaneswar and Kolkata on May 2 and May3, 2019, we are waiving change and cancellation fee for Bhubaneswar and Kolkata flights for travel between May 2 to May 5, 2019. Fare difference if any, will be applicable for date changes,” it said.

In the wake of storm, all colleges and soft business establishments have been closed for tomorrow.

As per the Office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), landfall will start between 8 a.m and 10 a.m and continue up to 12 noon on May 3, said the SRC.

The cyclone is very likely to move north-northeastwards and cross Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali, around Puri on May 3 forenoon with maximum sustained wind speed of 170-180 kmph gusting up to 200 kmph.

According to the forecast by the India Matereological Department (IMD), Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurdha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore districts of Odisha are likely to be severely affected.
