No firecracker sale in Delhi-NCR during Diwali, says SC

New Delhi, Oct 9, 2017: The Supreme Court of India on Monday banned the sale of firecrackers in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) ahead of Diwali citing air pollution as the reason.

A plea on the matter had sought restoration of the apex court’s 2016 verdict putting a stop to the sale of fircrackers in the region. A bench headed by Justice AK Sikri had reserved the court’s order on the same on October 6.

The top court, through its November 11 order last year, had suspended all licences which “permit sale of fireworks, wholesale and retail within the territory of NCR”.
