No clean chit to Army officer who tied youth to jeep: Defence Ministry

May 17 , Wednesday : After the news stormed across the media that army court had given clean chit to Major Nitin Gogoi, who tied the youth in front vehicle as human shield, Defence Ministry spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said that proceedings were still on.

“The Court of Inquiry concerned with the incident wherein a civilian was tied to an Army jeep is still incomplete. Reports in some sections of the media of the army Major being given a clean chit are speculative,” Kalia told IANS.

Earlier , media reported Major Nitin Gogoi had been given a clean chit and the COI had even praised him for the act to avoid casualties in the Kashmir Valley.

Following this, Defence Ministry spokesman said the army court has not submitted its report yet and its wrong to make speculations over the finding of inquiry.

The  video went viral last month,  showing a youth tied to an army jeep, as a human shield against stone-pelting had created an outrage in Kashmir and had been highly condemned by people across the country.  After a widespread violence, authorities and the army commenced investigation over the incident.
