New Delhi, Aug 1: Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya on Tuesday stepped down from his position and said he will rejoin academics.
His last day in the office will be August 31.
Panagariya is an Indian-American economist and Professor of Economics at Columbia University.
In his resignation letter, Panagariya said his leave was due to expire on August 31 and it was not possible to extend it.
He also served as the Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank and a Professor of Economics and Co-director, Centre for International Economics, the University of Maryland at College Park.
The 64-year-old was awarded with Padma Bhushan in 2013, the third highest civilian award the country bestows in any field.
