Nirbhaya’s mother approached DCW over delay in convicts’ execution

New Delhi, Sep 11: Asha Devi, mother of the 2012 Delhi gangrape victim Nirbahaya on Tuesday said she approached Delhi Commission for Women(DCW) over the pending execution of the convicts.

“Two months ago, I approached DCW. Appeal to the central government and court to complete all procedures and hang convicts soon” Asha Devi told ANI.

Her statement comes a day after,  DCW issued a notice to Tihar jail authorities for the delay in execution of convicts of the horrific gangrape case.

In the notice, the DCW said that the mother of the victim has submitted that the execution order of the accused has not been complied with till date, despite the passage of several months.

The Commission Chairperson Swati Maliwal sought an explanation over the “delay” in execution of these convicts. She stated they “should be executed at the earliest in order to create a strong deterrence in the society”.

Last year in May, the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence to four men convicted of the 23-year-old paramedic student rape, describing it as an attack “most brutal, barbaric and diabolical”.
