Mumbai, Nov 19, 2016: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) early on Saturday conducted raids at multiple locations connected to the controversial preacher and televangelist Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation in Mumbai.

The early morning operation came a day after the NIA filed a case against the IRF under various sections of Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Naik is under the scanner for alleged misdeeds, spreading or promoting communal disharmony, feelings of enmity between communities and supporting terror acts.

A team of the NIA sleuths, accompanied by Mumbai Police started the raids at eight-to-ten locations across the city owned or connected with the IRF.

The search operations are still under way at IRF premises.

However, as per NIA reports, Naik, who is currently out of the country, will be called for questioning soon.

The IRF shot into the limelight following allegations that Naik’s teachings and preachings had inspired terror strikes.
