NIA Raids: IS suspects sent to 12 days remand

New Delhi, Dec 27: The Patiala House Court on Thursday sent all the accused, arrested on the suspicion that they are part of a module of the Islamic State (IS), to 12 days police custody.

Vacation Judge Ajay Pandey allowed their police custody till January 8.

The Judge also allowed the family members of six of the accused to meet them in the court.

The NIA on Wednesday busted an Islamic State module named “Harkat-ul-Harb-e-Islam” by arresting 10 suspects who were allegedly planning terror attacks targeting some VIPs as well as crowded places in Delhi and the national capital region.

Lawyer of the accused told media “They’re students. What NIA has recovered includes tractor’s power nozzle which they planted and called it a rocket launcher.

“What they’re calling explosives are actually ‘sutli bombs’ that’re used in Diwali. There is a lot of fabrication”, he added.

The probe agency conducted searches at 17 places yesterday, including six places in East Delhi’s Jafarabad area, six places in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha, two places each in Lucknow and Hapur and one place in Meerut.

The NIA had registered a case on December 20 under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
