The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Rajasthan government over the painting of “I am poor” on BPL Families’ Walls. A report of The Hindu suggests that around 50,000 families has got this painting outside their houses.

According to some media reports BPL families in Sikrai and Bandikui tehsils who got subsidised food grains were asked by local officials to paint “I am poor” on their walls.

However commenting on the issue the government had said that the reason behind etching the painting was to stop the alleged misuse of the schemes.

K.C. Sharma, additional collector from Dausa,  while talking to Hindustan Times said “the district administration had not passed such an order,  “The zila parishad could have issued the directive as there were complaints of misuse of the Food Security Act by those who are not eligible. I will look into this complaint.

The NHRC has noted this incident as a violation of Right of Dignity and it also asked to submit a report regarding this incident within a month.
