New Delhi, Oct 3 : A new roster of business in Supreme Court has been issued on the orders of newly-sworn-in Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
As per the roster, letter petitions and Public Interest Litigation (PILs) will be heard by the Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi.
On the directions from CJI Gogoi, some PILs will also be listed before the Bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur, the second senior-most judge of the Supreme Court.
Justice Gogoi was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind earlier in the day.
The Chief Justice of India will also hear Social Justice matters, Election matters, Habeas Corpus petitions, Contempt of Court matters, cases related to appointment of Constitutional Functionaries, and matters pertaining to judicial officers, among others.
New Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on Wednesday temporarily disallowed the practice of mentioning of urgent matters by lawyers as has been prevalent till now, saying the parameters for this are being worked out.
“No mentioning (of matters) for Wednesday and Thursday. We are working out the parameters for the mentioning,” said the Chief Justice as the court proceeded with its normal course.
Justice Gogoi succeeded Chief Justice Dipak Misra to become India’s 46th Chief Justice.
