New Farakka Express train derails in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli, 7 dead

Rae Bareli, Oct 10: Seven persons have lost their lives died after nine coaches and the engine of  New Farakka express train heading to New Delhi from Malda town in West Bengal derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli on Wednesday. 

More than 60 people were injured and have been admitted to the district hospital.

The death toll is expected to rise as several have been critically injured.

The derailment took place near Harchandpur railway station around 6.05 a.m.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has announced Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the next of the kin of the deceased, Rs 1 lakh compensation for those with serious injuries and Rs 50,000 for those with minor injuries.

Drones and long-range cameras are being used to monitor the situation at the site of train derailment.
