New audio tape from police adds a doubt to Bhopal encounter

Madhya Pradesh, Nov 4, 2016: The controversy again raised over the killing of eight SIMI activists after they escape from the Bhopal Central Jail on Thursday with the new audio clip purportedly detailing conversations between security personnel involved in the operation, with one saying “gher ke kardo poora kaam tamam” (surround them and finish the job).

The audio clips, which come in the wake of videotapes that did the rounds within hours of the operation on October 31, raise more questions about the operation.

According to the audio clip, the police officers had already decided to kill the eight SIMI escapees instead of arresting them.

One person was heard saying that firing by policemen has begun and others should take positions. They were also given the instruction to communicate through the phone and not wireless sets for better communication.

The police officers can be heard congratulating each other multiple times after a few of the undertrials were shot dead. In the clip, one person says that someone must have been kept alive as well.

The clips also record instructions to cover the bodies from all sides because they may have to be verified.

Earlier, police had claimed that the SIMI activists, who escaped from the “high-security” Bhopal Central Jail after killing a prison guard, had firearms.
