May 24 , Wednesday : Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ announced his resignation on Wednesday evening, while addressing the nation, news agency PTI reported.
In his address, Dahal briefed about the achievements of his government during the past 10 months.
Prachanda will now submit his resignation to President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
He was appointed as the 39th prime minister of Nepal on 3 August 2016.
There was a speculation made over Prachada’s resignation as he was scheduled to address the Parliament before putting in his papers but due to obstruction of the House by main opposition, CPN-UML, he could not step down on Tuesday.
Dahal’s resignation is a part of a pact signed with the Nepali Congress, which his Communist Party has tied up with to form the government.
According to the agreement, Prachanda was to remain in office till the local elections were held while polls at the provincial and central levels were to be conducted under Deuba as the Prime Minister.
Both Prachanda and Deuba had agreed to run the government on a rotational basis until elections to Parliament were held in February 2018, as per constitutional obligations.
As per the this, Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba will become the next Prime Minister after Prachanda.
