Need long term fiscal support to counter PLA Navy, says Naval chief

New Delhi,Jul 25 : As China has released its white paper on defence, Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff said India needs “long term fiscal support to build a Navy to counter China’s PLA Navy.”

“Lot of resources have been shifted from other arms to PLA Navy, obviously in-line with their intention to become a global power. We have to watch that carefully and see how we can respond within our budget and constraints,” Singh said.

Chief of the Naval Staff said, “We require long term fiscal support to build a Navy and that is the only way we can plan.”

On the Rs 17,000 Crore deal with the US for 24 MH-60 multi-role helicopters, Navy Chief Admiral KB Singh said, “In the multi-role helicopter project, the procedure for Letter of Request and Letter of Acceptance is on. We should be able to sign it by the end of this year.”
