Kolkata, Jan 3 : The Congress received a major boost ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections in West Bengal as nearly 2000 Muslim workers of Various political leaders, including the Trinamool Congress,the BJP and the CPI(M) have joined the grand old party to fight against the “rise of communalism”.
This may prove significant for the party as well as the Congress President Rahul Gandhias the Muslim community in West Bengal has more than 27 per cent vote share..
Around 2,000 ground-level minority leaders of Trinamool Congress, including vice president of TMC minority cell, Shakeel Ansari have joined the Congress, which is considered as a major setback to Mamata Banerjee.
West Bengal Congress chief Somen Mitra said the party was against any sort of alliance with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state.
The total number of minority leaders joining the grand old party is 2,500.
This development indicates that Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi may not participate in the ‘federal front’ rally called by Mamata Banerjee on January 19 in Kolkata.
