Naxals release statement on DD cameraman killing, say didn’t intend to target media

New Delhi, Nov 2: Days  after killing Doordarshan Cameraman Achyutanand Sahu, Naxals on Friday released a statement claiming that Sahu lost his life after being caught in the ambush and they ‘had no intention of targeting the media.’

The Moaist also claimed that they were unaware of the fact that Achutyanand Sahu was a media person.

“We never attack media intentionally. DD Cameraman Achutyanand Sahu was killed after being caught in the ambush and we had no intention of targeting the media”, the Naxals said.

The letter also asked media persons and officials on election duty to not accompany security forces.

Reacting to this, Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallav puntured the claims made by Naxals and questioned why they looted Sahu’s camera if they did not intend to attack media.

“Multiple bullet wounds and skull fractures on the martyred cameraman in no ways indicates it was by mistake”, he added.

On October 30, Sahu and two police personnel were killed in Dantewada, whereas another succumbed to his injuries taking the death toll to four.

The Maoists have asked people to boycott the upcoming Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly elections.
